Our purpose is to worship God and to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ by sharing His love, bringing people to Jesus, growing together toward Christ-like maturity, and equipping each other for service.

ST. JOHN’S, A CHURCH OF THE LUTHERAN CHURCH – MISSOURI SYNOD (LCMS), TRACES ITS ROOTS BACK TO SOME KEY POINTS IN HISTORY WHEN THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH WENT TO SIGNIFICANT LENGTHS TO KEEP ITSELF PURE.
OVER THE PAST TWO MILLENNIA, MANY DIFFERENT SECTS HAVE EMERGED, MOST OF WHICH DESIRE TO BE THE MOST AUTHENTIC REPRESENTATIONS OF TRUE CHRISTIANITY.

St. John’s History

1892 – MISSION WORK STARTED IN SPOKANE, BUT DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS THE WORK HAD TO BE DISCONTINUED.
1900 – ST. JOHN’S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH WAS ORGANIZED WITH SEVEN MEMBER FAMILIES ON MARCH 18. THE REV. B.A.C PAUL BECAME THE FIRST PASTOR.
1901 – FIRST CHURCH BUILDING AND SCHOOL BUILDING DEDICATED ON MARCH 17.
1902 – THE REV. PAUL ACCEPTED A CALL TO ANOTHER CONGREGATION IN MARCH.
1902 – THE REV. W. H. KOSS WAS INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON APRIL 20.
1937 – THE REV. KOSS WAS CALLED HOME TO HIS ETERNAL REST ON OCTOBER 31.
1938 – THE REV. C.M. AMLING WAS INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON MARCH 13.
1945 – THE REV. AMLING RESIGNED ON SEPTEMBER 20.
1946 – THE REV. T. E. DORPAT WAS INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON JANUARY 20.
1951 – DEDICATION OF THE REBUILT THIRD AND DIVISION CHURCH BUILDING ON MAY 20.
1958 – THE REV. DORPAT RESIGNED ON JUNE 15.
1959 –   THE REV C. LANGHANS INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON FEBRUARY 1.
1964 – THE REV. R. BECKER WAS INSTALLED AS ASSISTANT PASTOR ON FEBRUARY 9.
1964 – THE REV. BECKER PREACHED HIS FAREWELL SERMON ON NOVEMBER 19.
1966 – THE REV. LANGHANS RESIGNED ON SEPTEMBER 7.
1967 – THE REV. C.C. EIFERT INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON SEPTEMBER 10.
1969 – THE REV. FRED RIEDEL INSTALLED AS ASSISTANT PASTOR ON OCTOBER 12.
1979 – THE REV. WILTON E. HILLE INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON NOVEMBER 11.
1998 – THE REV. WILTON E. HILLE RETIRES AS PASTOR ON DECEMBER 31, 1998
1999 – THE REV. HOWARD PETERSON INSTALLED AS INTERIM PASTOR
2000 – THE REV. DAVID C. JENSEN, INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON DECEMBER 3, 2000
2007 – CHURCH BUILDING AND PROPERTY AT 3RD AND DIVISION SOLD; CHURCH MOVES TO THE MEADOWLANE ROAD PROPERTY IN THE LATAH VALLEY
2008 – REV. DAVID C. JENSEN ACCEPTS A CALL TO BARABOO, WA, PREACHES FAREWELL SERMON DEC. 25TH
2009 – MEADOWLANE ROAD GROUND BREAKING ON MAY 10


2009 – BRIAN ALBRECHT INSTALLED AS VICAR ON JUNE 1ST

2009 – FIRST WALL RAISING JULY 2

2009 – FIRST WORSHIP SERVICE IN THE NEW SANCTUARY SEPTEMBER 13


2010 – MEADOWLANE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL OPENS FEBRUARY 1 (FORMERLY SPOKANE LUTHERAN SCHOOL)
2010 – FIRST WORSHIP SERVICE IN THE COMPLETED NEW MEADOWLANE ROAD SANCTUARY ON MARCH 21
2010 – DEDICATION OF THE NEW MEADOWLANE ROAD CHURCH AND SCHOOL BUILDINGS ON APRIL 18
2012 – REV. BRIAN ALBRECHT ORDAINED AND INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON JANUARY 8
2017 – REV. ALBRECHT RETIRES, PREACHES HIS LAST SERMON ON NOVEMBER 26
2019 – REV. BILL HARTLEY IS INSTALLED AS PASTOR ON JULY 14
