Have you ever had one of those days when you’ve got it all mapped out; everything that you want to accomplish is laid out right before you and you are ready to dive in and “get ‘er done”? Then, just as you are set to begin a GIANT wrench gets thrown into the works and everything grinds to a screeching halt. For me, that day was Monday. There we’re Bible studies to write, the Reformation service to finish and distribute, a Church Council meeting to prepare for, but it was all put on hold due to a death in our internet family…failure of the modem and router back in the media room. Everything on the day’s plate had to be pushed aside so that our “technical difficulties” could be remediated. Even now things are not as they should be, but sufficient temporary fixes have been made so that your church offices can continue to function. All of this is a microcosm of life itself. We make our plans, get them all mapped out, get ready to set out on great adventures and then WHAMMO! We find ourselves down in the ditch, stuck in the mud, unable to get out on our own. The underlying cause of all of this is sin; in our lives, the lives of others, and in the world in general. Ours is a broken world, one where things no longer run according to the perfect plan of God. But this is only temporary because of God’s plan to fix it, that has already been accomplished in the person of Jesus Christ, His Son. In His life, death, resurrection and ascension Jesus has set right all that has gone wrong, and the entire process will come to its completion on the day that He returns. In the meantime, while we wait for that to happen, we press on with the work that He has given us; pointing people to His gospel, His love, using the broken and jerry-rigged pieces of this world that are available to us; continuing to function in the expectation of all that is to come.
