This morning I arrived at the church to find our internet feed had nearly ground to a halt. To make matters worse as the computer on my desk was roused from its slumber Windows decided to provide me with a massive update. Some three and a half hours later it was finally finished. No need to panic though as Comcast is on the way to install a new modem in the media room to replace the one that was built in 1932 and was hooked up here when we moved into the building back in March of 2010. This experience was once again an indication of how dependent we have become on technology. Thank goodness that I do have books in the office from which I could make something useful of my hours of disconnect. One thing that we don’t need technology, and never have, to hook up to is our Lord Jesus Christ. He is available through prayer and His Word at all hours…24/7/365…and His people, the Church, are pretty easy to find as well. I guess if there is one piece of advice that I can pass along to you from this experience is that we should always keep a printed Bible nearby, and not depend on a website or app to stay connected to God through His Word.
