Now that I’ve got your attention! Those where the two predominating aromas wafting through our house last evening at about 8:00pm. A pan full of bacon had recently come out of the oven, destined to be turned into BLAT (the A stands for avocado) sandwiches for dinner. The smell of beer also came from the oven as a loaf of beer bread had just emerged from the same place, the oven, destined to be served at our Soup Supper this evening (Consumer note: there is only ONE loaf so you better get there early). That smell was more like that of the toasted malt that you experience when driving past or near a brewery, although not quite near as obnoxious. Together it was heavenly! Which got me to thinking, just what does heaven smell like? I can’t say for sure…haven’t been there, yet…but I am led to believe (from Scripture) that heaven will be a place where the smells, the tastes, the sounds, the sights and the feelings will be far more intense than anything that we will ever experience on earth, all in the best of ways. All will be totally and overwhelmingly pleasing, forever. Can you imagine that? We don’t need to know all of the details of what God has in store for us in His home, which will be our home forever, in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. What we must know is that it will be better, infinitely better, than anything that we experience here on earth…even the aromas of bacon and beer. All things will be renewed back to the perfection that they had at the beginning of time; in the Garden of Eden, where we will enjoy the sights, the sounds, the smells, the flavors, and the feelings just the way that God originally intended for us to, and do it forever with Him. What a wonderful eternity to look forward to! Oh, and by the way…the house still smells like bacon this morning.
