With the deluge rain that we have had this past week I’ve noticed that the local ducks are out in force and really seem to be enjoying themselves. It got me to wondering…shouldn’t these waterproof waterfowl have fled south for the winter by now? Perhaps our fine feathered and webbed-footed friends know something that we don’t. Maybe they have the inside scoop on what the rest of the winter weather actually will be and have the assurances that there will be plenty of water to frolic in rather than ice and snow to freeze in. I mean, we have scientific predictions (certainly not the Farmer’s Almanac) that point to an easy winter, compliments of a very strong “El Nino” effect this year, but what if the ducks had an absolute certainty that this would indeed be the case? I guess that would lead to their confidence and the apparent joy that they exude. If that’s the case, we could learn a lot from this multitude of mallards. We have certainty in our future too! We have the assurance that when the road of this life ends it will deliver us to our eternal destination, at home in heaven with our Creator and Father, our Savior and Brother, and all of those who have left this life in faith before us. It’s a sure thing, no doubt about it, because everything that needed to be done to bring this reality about has been done by our Lord Jesus. We can live our lives here on earth just like those ducks, with confidence and joy. While this world may not be all that it’s “quacked up to be”, what lies ahead for all eternity will far surpass any of our expectations, hopes and dreams!
