After what turned out to be the hottest “meteorological summer” (June, July & August) ever here in Spokane it sure seems like fall has arrived in these parts. It’s been that way for about a week. Just like the seasons of the year go through their natural progression so do the seasons of our life. Also the same is that there is nothing that we can do to stop that progression. In the spring of our lives we grow and blossom into the person that God created us to be. In the summer we’re at our peak; working, producing, reproducing…Then comes the fall, things start to slow down. The leaves begin to fall off of our personal trees. The inevitable winter finally comes, and eventually our body gives out and goes into a state of hibernation (so to speak!). During these seasons different people move into and out of our lives. We experience a myriad of relationships, most casual, but some incredibly intimate. But even those most special relationships can’t last forever…not in this world. There is a relationship that is everlasting. It’s the relationship that we have with the Everlasting; with Jesus our Savior. Unlike us, He never changes! The writer to the Hebrews puts it this way; “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) Our relationship with our unchanging God seals our eternal well being. It ensures that even though our mortal bodies die our soul, our personality, our awareness and consciousness, will continue on forever…forever in the presence of our Lord, and in the presence of those loved and dear ones who have departed from this world and entered into the kingdom of heaven by faith. In the end, our bodies will be raised again and made perfect and imperishable, able to resist any change forever.
