I didn’t pay too much attention to the national election returns last week, I figured I’d find out the results soon enough anyway, but I WAS struck by the reaction of the supporters of the winning and losing candidates. At the headquarters of the loser…no one was there when they went live to a reporter…everyone had gone home. For the winner it was a different story. There were large crowds whooping it up, cheering, yelling and singing. What a difference! As Christians shouldn’t we be like those supporters of the winner? Shouldn’t we spend time cheering and singing…shouting the good news. Truth is, we have been elected by God, to receive his gift of salvation and eternal life. Not that we’re any better than anyone else, but we have responded in faith, by the Spirit’s power, to the call of the Gospel of Jesus, and have therefore been made children of God. That’s reason to celebrate, to announce to the world how our future is so bright that we want to share the good news with everyone else, so that they too can be part of the elect, living in eternal joy and peace with their Creator and Redeemer.
