This is the time of year that businesses crank up the advertising. They want to sell you something…anything! They need to boost sales. The yearly bottom line depends on it, so they will use all sorts of gimmicks. One of the most successful is to create urgency. You’ve got to buy this today or you could be shut out, miss out, on this incredible deal. This is a “Limited Time Offer.” It may be here today but gone tomorrow. Now Jesus isn’t selling anything, but He is trying to give something away…something of incredible and eternal worth. He wants to give all people forgiveness of sin and eternal life by faith in him. His intent is to boost the bottom line by bringing more souls, people, into the kingdom of God and to heaven, with him. There’s an urgency here too. This too is a limited time offer! Two things can and will happen that can cause a person to miss out, be shut out of heaven, and both of them can come suddenly, without warning. I think you know what they are; death and/or the coming of Christ in judgment. Because of this we have an urgency that rests on us. As God’s “sales force” who have mission of delivering the Good News of Jesus to all people we have limited time to do our part. During the season of Advent and Christmas comes a wonderful opportunity to share with others, especially those close and dear to us, what the true meaning of Christmas is along with the reason that God came into the world as a tiny baby in a faraway place. The doors of heaven are still open for business, for more to enter in, but the time is limited and no one knows when the offer will no longer available. We should live our lives in the truth that access to God’s grace is a limited time offer…He is coming again and will close the doors forever.
