“Rain, rain go away, come again some other…” No, now wait a minute, just go away and don’t come back, not for a long, long time! What a soaker it has been, nearly 36 hours of steady rain, over an inch in the rain bucket. Will it ever end? Of course it will. Noah had to be wondering that same thing back in the time of the great flood. He knew the deluge was coming, God had warned him of it, but I’m sure that it was much worse than he ever imagined. The ark that God told him to build kept Noah and his family safe and dry in the storm, the worst storm in the history of the world, as sin and evil were judged and destroyed. That ark is a symbol of the Church that keeps us all safe and secure in the stormy times that we live in. The Church, the collection of all the faithful, will sail through today’s storms as well as the next storm of all history, the end times judgment, to eternal safety in God’s recreated universe, once again cleansed of all sin and evil, but this time forever, the inhabitants of this ark will have all their (our) sin removed. We can and should be at peace and joyful in the storms of life knowing that in Christ our fate and fortune are safe and sound. Our fate is an eternal mansion in God’s heavenly kingdom and our fortune is everything that God has, ours as an inheritance through faith in Jesus.
