You’ve probably heard the old joke; “How many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb? CHANGE! Whaddaya mean change! My grandfather put that light bulb in 80 years ago, and if it was good enough for them then it’s good enough for us now!” Yes, we have a reputation for being set in our ways. Truth is though, we’re about as changed as anyone can get. We’re changed by God, We’re changed by the resurrection. We’re changed by being baptized into Christ Jesus. The Apostle Paul writes, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Cor. 5:17) Being joined to the death and resurrection of Jesus we all have become new. And like a new light bulb we can shine brightly. We are set right before God our Father in receiving the righteousness, the perfection, of Jesus as He has taken on all of our sin and guilt and nailed it to his cross. In the resurrection we are released from our slavery to sin and are free to live the lives that God created us for. Oh, and by the way, just to show how changeable we Lutherans here at St. John’s are, there will be a change in our service schedule for the summer…check out the details below.
Pastor Brian Albrecht has served St. John's since June of 2009
