It seems like by now that we should be making preparations for Easter, that it should be this Sunday or next. Not so this year…it’s coming almost as late as it can. (April 22nd is the latest possible date that it can be celebrated) That gives us more time to get ready and more time for things to green up and for the flowers to start blooming. We know exactly when Easter will be here and what we should be doing to get ready. That’s not the case with the next, and final, coming of Jesus, and the resurrection of all the dead. Many people have spent their lives trying to figure out exactly when that will take place, but truth be told, nobody knows and nobody can know. All of that work is an exercise in futility. Jesus says so himself, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only…Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:36,42) That fact tells us that we need to be ready now! We can’t wait around because Jesus’ return could happen any day now…or any minute. Being prepared is simple, but not all that easy. It means placing our faith and trust for all eternity in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus for our salvation. The Apostle Paul tells us plainly; “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Faith in our Lord Jesus and confessing him before others is the best preparation for entering into God’s eternal kingdom of heaven.
